S. acuensis

S. alagoensis

S. bicolor

S. brevipedunculata

S. cernua

S. coccinea

S. mantiqueirae

S. pygmaea

S. wittigiana

Note: Despite all these names are generally accepted, it is our particular oppinion that this genus might be better classified having only four variable species easyly recongnizeable: S. cernua, S. coccinea, S. pygmaea and S. wittigiana. The way it is now, limits between morphologic variations of S. coccinea are too hard to define, if possible at all.

For other species sometimes classified under Sophronitis or Laelia see also:

  • Brasilaelia - Laelia purpurata group, the large species that look like Cattleya and have spathe.
  • Hadrolaelia - Laelia pumila group, the species which the opening leaves work as a spathe.
  • Hoffmanseggella - Laelia cinnabarina group, the rupicolous Laelia.
  • Dungsia - Laelia harpophylla group, the ones with flowers that resemble the rupicolous but are epyphitic with long thin pseudobulbs.
  • Microlaelia - Laelia lundii, the terete leaves miniature.
